Economic Development

Economic Development

Economic stability serves as a key element in creating and maintaining strong communities. Many national economic trends have hindered communities of color from growing financially including wage gaps and the historic lack of financial training. The Economic Development Committee focuses on advocating, educating, encouraging and empowering its members and community with dynamic programs.

Empowered Finances is the Buffalo Alumnae Chapter economic development program focused on improving financial literacy and promoting long-term financial well-being of our members and the communities we serve. It offers practical workshops and resources on key financial topics such as budgeting, debt management, saving, investing, retirement planning, homeownership, and entrepreneurship. The program is designed to help participants build financial stability, make informed decisions, and create pathways to lasting wealth.

National economic trends, such as unstable employment, the threat to Social Security as we know it, and the widening gap between wealth and poverty are the basis for the development of Financial Fortitude, the current Economic Development program initiative of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Financial Fortitude is a process that will help program participants to set and define goals, develop a plan to achieve them, and to put the plan into action. The process serves as a blueprint to address all aspects of personal finances.
